ABOUT THE
EXPERIMENT
LIBRARY EXPERIMENT is an art project that allows strangers to lend each other books.
Most people have some books in their home, and most people lend books to others.
In other words, we are surrounded by a large--but invisible--library.
LIBRARY EXPERIMENT visualizes this library at large, and organizes it for community use.

LIBRARY EXPERIMENT is based in Iowa City: a town known for its bookshelves.

How does LIBRARY EXPERIMENT work? Participants send the artist a photograph of their bookshelf. The artist adds the photograph to this website, and adds the books to a catalog.
In exchange, the participant receives a link to use the LIBRARY EXPERIMENT catalog.

If a participant desires to borrow a book from the catalog, they email the artist with the title
they wish to read. The artist delivers the books from one house to another. She also returns
the books when their loan expires. The loan period is two weeks.
